Mauro Perretti

Mauro Perretti is the Coordinator of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN EVOluTION. Mauro is Dean of Research at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL and a Professor of Immunopharmacology at the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI).

Research interests: Inflammation – Experimental Medicine and Pharmacology; cardiovascular – translational pharmacology and therapeutic innovation; inflammation – translational pharmacology and therapeutic innovation.

Supervisor of project: ESR 1 – Microparticles as natural nanomedicines to control vascular reactivity.

Amrita Ahluwalia

Amrita Ahluwalia is a Co-Director of the WHRI and a Professor of Vascular Pharmacology at QMUL.

Research interests: NIHR Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit; inflammation – experimental medicine and pharmacology; cardiovascular – translational pharmacology and therapeutic innovation; cardiovascular – experimental medicine and pharmacology.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 2 – Exploration of the therapeutic potential of dietary nitrate in hypertension: role for XOR.

Tim Warner

Tim Warner is Director of the Blizard Institute and Professor of Vascular Inflammation at QMUL.

Research interests: Inflammation – experimental medicine and pharmacology; cardiovascular: experimental medicine and pharmacology.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 3 – Influence of dietary interventions upon platelet reactivity and lipidome.

Chris Reutelingsperger

Chris Reutelingsperger is Professor of Biochemistry and Apoptosis at UMA, and Co-Founder of the Biosynt BV and PharmaTarget BV.

Research interests: Computational chemistry and structural biology, vascular biochemistry.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 4 – Targeted treatment of vascular calcification.

Gerry Nicolaes

Gerry Nicolaes is Professor of Biochemisty at UMA

Research interests: Hematology, drug discovery, medicinal chemistry and biochemistry.

Co-supervisor of the project: ESR 4 – Targeted treatment of vascular calcification.

Erik Biessen

Erik Biessen is Professor of Vascular Pathology and Leader of the Experimental Vascular Pathology Group at UMA.

Research interests: Chronic inflammation of blood vessels.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 5 – Re-instructing the atherosclerotic plaque macrophage.

Catherine Godson

Catherine Godson is a Professor of Molecular Medicine and Director of UCD Diabetes Research Centre.

Research interests: Microvascular inflammation of diabetes and its resolution, and extracellular signal transduction.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 6 – FPR2 agonists as modulators of vascular complications of diabetes.

Oliver Söhnlein

Oliver Söhnlein is Professor of Vascular Immunotherapy, and Group leader at the Department of Pathology at LMU.

Research interests: Vascular inflammation and intravital optical imaging.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 7 – Instructing FPR2 and GPR32 for treatment of atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction.

Nikolaus Plesnila

Nikolaus Plesnila is Head of Laboratory of Experimental Stroke Research at LMU.

Research interests: Pathophysiology of ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 8 – Role of inhaled NO for neuroinflammation after ischemic stroke.

Jon Lundberg

Jon Lundberg is Professor of Pharmacology at KI.

Research interests: Nitric oxide, physiology, and therapeutics; diet and cardiovascular/metabolic function.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 9 – The Nitrate-Nitrite-Nitric Oxide Pathway: Impact on Cardiovascular and Metabolic Function.

Andy Merritt

Andy Merritt is Associate Director at LifeArc.

Research interests: Medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 10 – The use of chemical biology to evaluate targets associated with vascular inflammation: identification and targeted delivery of novel agents for targets.

Leon Schurgers

Leon Schurgers is Professor of Biochemistry at UMA.

Research interests: Vitamin K, vascular calcification, vascular smooth muscle cells, oral anticoagulants, atherosclerosis.

Supervisor of the project: ESR 11 – Nutraceuticals modulating the vascular vitamin K-system.
