Edmund Bailey

Dr Edmund Bailey, a Clinical Reader and Honorary Consultant in Oral Surgery at Queen Mary University of London, is revolutionising dental education and patient safety. His journey from Leicester to becoming a leader in his field exemplifies resilience and dedication. Dr Bailey's groundbreaking work has significantly influenced clinical practices globally, while he continues to shape dental education and advocate for inclusivity.

Identity and Education
Growing up in Leicester, Edmund's curiosity was nurtured from an early age. Coming out as gay during his university years in Liverpool, he found strength in the LGBTQ+ community, forming lifelong friendships that continue to shape his personal and professional life.

A passion for dentistry
Initially drawn to history and arts, Edmund discovered his calling in dentistry during his A-levels. The blend of creativity, structured career path, and patient care appealed to his diverse interests, setting him on a path to excellence in oral surgery.

Advancing patient safety
At the forefront of patient safety research, Edmund's work on "Never Events" in the NHS has been instrumental in developing policies to prevent adverse incidents in dental practice. His co-authored Cochrane systematic reviews have influenced clinical practices globally.

Shaping future professionals
As the Programme Director for the DClinDent in Oral Surgery at QMUL, Edmund is moulding the next generation of oral surgeons. His textbook, 'Core Oral Surgery for Dental Students', has become a valuable resource in undergraduate dental education.
