By enabling a two-way research model, the discoveries we make at the lab bench are rapidly translated to the clinic, while our clinical work helps identify new therapeutic targets for further investigation in our laboratories. A similar strategy endorses our work in population health and prevention, bringing back to the laboratory, observations made in the population for refined analyses.
