Success for School staff in Humanities and Social Sciences awards
Colleagues from across the School of Geography shared success at the annual Faculty of Humanities and Social Science awards ceremony, with winners and commendations across all categories.
The annual Queen Mary Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences award ceremony was held on Wednesday 20 November 2024, with prizes awarded across three categories - Professional Services Support, Education, and Research - recognising accomplishments across the Faculty.
Colleagues from across the School of Geography received commendations and awards from Professor Colin Bailey (Principal and President), Professor Frances Bowen (Vice-Principal, Humanities and Social Sciences) and Professor Elizabeth Gillow (Dean for Education, Humanities and Social Sciences).
These awards included:
Vice Principal's Special Prize awarded to Professor Geraldene Wharton, Matthew Halfin (Careers and Enterprise Service) and Dr Tim Edkins (Politics and International Relations) for developing and implementing a coherent and consistent employability framework across schools in the Faculty.
Digital Teacher of the Year Award jointly awarded to Dr Elsa Noterman, Professor Alex Henshaw, Olivia Warren and Dr Andrew Russell for their work on redesigning and delivering a level 4 module including ArcGIS StoryMaps.
Landmark Publication Award awarded to Professor Kathryn Yusoff for her book Geologic Life which examines how race and racialization emerged geologically.
External Funding Award awarded to Professor Kate Spencer and Dr Andrew Russell for securing the grant "Resilience of Anthropocene Coasts and Communities (RACC): assessing and responding to urban and post-industrial coastal risks."
Research Impact Award awarded to Professor Gemma Harvey and Professor Alex Henshaw for their work with environment sector organisations to embed environmental and geospatial science into nature recovery and rewilding.
Digital Learning Experience Award awarded to Malgo Miranowicz and the Faculty Digital Learning team for above and beyond dedication and support in the improvement and development of the digital learning experience across the Faculty.
Excellence in Accessibility Award awarded to Malgo Miranowicz for the above and beyond dedication and support in the improvement and development of accessibility for staff and students in Geography.
Assessment and Feedback Champion jointly awarded to Dr Niranjana Ramesh, Professor Philippa Williams and Professor James Esson for their work on redesigning the assessment structure of the module "Development Geographies" to include a group podcast.
EDI Award for Openness and Inclusion commendation to Professor Jon May, Norul Ahmed and Tatiana Sevyan.
Teaching Assistant Excellence Award commendation to Dr Jennie Doyle and Sofia Daniela Negri.
