Education Quality and Standards Board (EQSB)
The Education Quality and Standards Board (EQSB) is a board of Queen Mary's Senate. It is responsible for academic quality and standards at Queen Mary, ensuring that strategic plans are aligned with internal and external regulatory requirements and sector expectations, and it considers risks and their mitigation in relation to these requirements. EQSB has delegated authority from Senate to approve certain items, and does so by consideration, scrutiny and discussion with Board members.
The Board has three principal functions:
- to provide assurance to the Senate and to the Council (Queen Mary’s governing body) of the quality and standards of the University’s educational provision. This includes assurances on compliance with relevant requirements of Queen Mary’s external regulators and the identification and mitigation of any risks to those assurances.
- to develop, implement, monitor and review new and amended policies and procedures linked to academic quality and standards and to teaching, learning and assessment, with reference to the Senate where appropriate. The Board is responsible for ensuring that these practices align with and support compliance with internal and external expectations and requirements.
- to oversee the delivery of Queen Mary’s academic quality assurance processes, ensuring that these are designed and conducted effectively and efficiently. The Board is also responsible for the analysis of outputs from these processes including the identification, escalation, and mitigation of any areas of potential risk or concern as well as the identification and sharing of good practices.
