Professor Richard Grose appointed new Director of Queen Mary University of London Global Policy Institute (QMGPI)

Professor Bowen has been leading the GPI since 2023 alongside her role of Vice-Principal for Humanities and Social Sciences.

Richard is a cancer cell biologist who trained at University College London, ETH Zurich and Cancer Research UK London Research Institute, prior to joining Queen Mary as a lecturer in 2004. His research focuses on cellular crosstalk in cancer progression, with a particular focus on breast and pancreatic cancer. Alongside his role as faculty Dean for Global Engagement, Richard is Programme Director for an MSc in Cancer and Molecular & Cellular Biology and has taught on Queen Mary’s Joint Programme with Nanchang University in China since 2017.    

Professor Grose said:
“I am honoured and excited to be taking on the role of Director at Queen Mary’s Global Policy Institute. Having been a part of the leadership team since 2021, I am aware of both the successes, such as the establishment of our Policy Associates programme, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Since joining the GPI, Professor Bowen has done a fantastic job by increasing the Institute’s prominence and recognition, through new high-calibre partnerships and projects. Drawing on the strengths of our outstanding leadership team and Advisory Board, I aim to build on these firm foundations and establish the QMGPI as one of the leading interdisciplinary policy institutes in the UK.”

I am proud of the milestones we have achieved, and new projects and collaborations initiated over the last two years including teaming up with Cornell, joining the Global Hub Initiative and expanding upon the Brazil Accelerator Fund. I am sure that QMGPI will go from strength to strength under Richard’s leadership.”
