The School of History is deeply saddened by the death of Professor Sir Christopher Bayly in Chicago yesterday. Our thoughts and sympathy go to his wife, Susan Bayly, and other members of his family. Chris was a superb historian and a very generous person. He joined Queen Mary in September 2014, and fast became an admired teacher, esteemed colleague and friend to many. We had far too short a time to learn from him and enjoy his presence among us. We will miss him very much.
