Globe's film launch: 'Here Be Dragons'
'Globe' is a collaborative filmic and sculptural project developed by artist Janetka Platun, Leverhulme artist in residence in Geography and Drama at Queen Mary University London. Globe explores questions of home and migration with people in East London, questioning ideas of who falls inside and outside, them and us.
The launch invites you to roll Globe around the Geffrye Museum and Kingsland Road, and to watch the film ‘Here Be Dragons’ edited from Globe’s footage.
2pm Globe Rolling
3pm & 4pm Movie screening
3.30pm Globe Making Workshop
Globe is a copper sphere, 1 metre in diameter with four portholes holding cameras recording journeys and conversations with the public. Globe started life free of any imperfections but as it rolled through the streets, it’s copper exterior degraded and scarred, taking on the impressions of each route travelled, mapping each journey. Globe’s spatial politics are shaped by its spherical design, a mobile, dynamic and evolving piece of art.
In addition there will be Globe making workshop exploring how you perceive your home on a local and global scale.
