Academic View: What a year
The Department of Coomparative Literature and Culture has had an amazing year despite the challegenes the pandamic brought us. Here are some of our highlights from outside the classroom.
Dr Kasia Mika won the prestigious AHRC Research in Film Award with Ed Owles last November https://www.postcodefilms.com/projects/intranquillites
Dr Ben Holgate, a Leverhulme Career Fellow, organised a ground-breaking conference on Cultural Finance in February in collaboration with the School of Economics and Finance. The conference was the first of its kind in the UK, featuring both literary critics and economists among its speakers.
Dr Rachel Bryant-Davis was recently awarded a British Academy Covid-19 Grant for a project entitled 'Childhood heroes: storytelling survival strategies and role models of resilience to Covid-19 in the UK', which will be based with the Centre for Childhood Cultures, with Professor Kiera Vaclavik and Lucie Glasheen (PhD student).
Dr Bryant-Davies has also gained an IHSS network grant with Hedi Viterbo (Law) and the CCC for a series of seminars entitled Rethinking Childhood Studies.
Dr Adhira Mangalagiri returns after she successfully completed her term as the Victor and William Fung Fellow at Harvard University’s Asia Center.
