Parents and Carers Network

Queen Mary’s Parents and Carers Staff Network is a staff led network providing voice, opportunity and connection for staff that are parents or carers. The network provides the opportunity to socialise, share, challenge and receive peer support in relation to the challenges faced by parents and carers. The network aims to undertake activity that will create positive change and improve the experience of its members at Queen Mary.

Network membership is voluntary and open to all staff, regardless of their level/grade.

Aims of the network

  • Create a platform for colleagues to discuss issues affecting parents and carers and consider possible solutions
  • Provide a confidential, supportive and safe space where members can network, build relationships and share experiences, concerns and resources
  • Support colleagues with caring responsibilities to enable them to carry out their role effectively as well as their caring duties
  • Raise awareness of the impact decisions at all levels can have on staff with caring responsibilities and to give a voice to those with caring responsibilities in decision making discussions
  • Review and inform policies and practices to ensure Queen Mary is taking an approach that is inclusive and supportive of parents and carers
  • To act as a channel for communication and consultation between staff and senior management
  • Provide guidance and support to line managers to ensure they are following good practice
  • Advocate for support with the high cost of childcare
