FAQs

The application form can be found on the main Clinical Excellence Awards page. Further information on the steps on how to apply can be found in the Guidances Notes (specifically from pg 19) also posted on the main page.

There are 3 further separate (optional) forms - Forms D, E and F.

Form A must be completed; this form provides space to give information regarding the 5 domains.

All 5 domains must be completed on Form A to form a single application. If you are applying for Bronze or Silver, one of these domains can be completed on one of the separate forms instead. For Gold, there can be an extra two and for Platinum there can be up to three forms completed separately. You do not have to fill in extra forms if you do not wish to.

Further information can be found in the Guidance Notes.

For Clinical Academics, the employer section must be completed by the Trust which issues the Honorary contract - not by the University.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that this section is completed prior to submission.

Application forms must be submitted separately to both your NHS Trust and the School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Please note: Clinical Academics holding HCC with Trusts other than Barts Health should check with their own Trust regarding their internal deadlines/processes.

The School of Medicine and Dentistry will need to be able to confirm that any candidate has undertaken a satisfactory appraisal, in which they have agreed and fulfilled their job plan and met any other contractual obligations (e.g. complying with private practice code of conduct) during the previous 12 month period.

In determining the rankings for QMUL, neither panel (the University or the Trust) will prioritise individuals for whom they are unable to verify that both the joint job plan review and joint appraisal meetings have taken place over the last 12 months.

You may wish to gain support from these specialists (e.g. Royal College of Physicians, the Primary Care of Dermatology Society) but you will need to arrange this directly with them.

SMD Clinical Excellence Awards Committee will provide rankings and citations in support of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum applications - but not for lower level or local awards.

The School holds its own internal committee to review applications, confirm the support of these applications and arrange the provision of citations. This committee will be concerned that deserving candidates employed by, or holding an academic title in the School, are not overlooked, and that due attention is paid to the requirement for transparency of the process for nominations.

These awards are external to Queen Mary meaning that these deadlines are strict in order to stay within the timeframes of the National award scheme.

Any applications sent after 12pm midday on Thursday 12 March 2020 will not be considered by the Panel.

The final submission date for your online form is 5pm on Thursday 7 April 2020. This is a deadline set by ACCEA and the online portal will close automatically at this time and is not flexible.

If your query is in relation to your application to the School, please contact Rhianne Jones, Reward & Benefits Administrator for Queen Mary.

Any queries regarding employer support from Barths Health NHS Trust must be directed to Janet Bradford at Barts Health NHS Trust.

If you hold an Honorary Consultant contract with any other Trusts, you should contact them directly and abide by their own internal deadlines and processes which may differ from those at Queen Mary.
