Profile

Since joining the Queen Mary medical school in 2020 as a lecturer on the MBBS, I meet students on year one, year two and the graduate entry programme (GEP)  on an almost daily basis. I am the co-module lead for MET1, MET2 and DMG (Digestion, Metabolism and Growth). In addition to delivering biochemistry lectures, I am also a problem-based learning (PBL) tutor on many different modules across years one and two. Part of my role as PBL tutor is being the first port of call for any students needing support.

Before joining Queen Mary, I managed and lectured on biomedical science degree programmes in  further education colleges in south and east London, gaining a PGCE via Greenwich university. Prior to lecturing, I carried out research. I was a post-doctoral research fellow firstly at the Institute of Ophthalmology (UCL) where I was investigating uveal melanoma (eye cancer). My second post-doctoral position was at St George’s Hospital Medical School where I was investigating Fanconi Anaemia.

My PhD was on cytokine mRNA expression following orf virus infection in sheep and I was based in Edinburgh. For my Masters (in Experimental Pathology) at Dundee University ,  I was investigating TNF-α mRNA expression in sarcoidosis. My first degree was combined honours in biochemistry and pharmacology from Leeds University.
