Profile

Yvonne is a Reader in Medical Education, Head of Year 1 and Deputy Head of MBBS (Early Years Curriculum) in the Institute of Health Sciences Education, Queen Mary University of London.  

Yvonne gained a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from University of Bradford and a MSc (Neuroscience) and PhD (Urology Pharmacology) from University College London (UCL). 

As a teaching-focused academic, Yvonne is primarily involved in the teaching of Medical Physiology. Externally, Yvonne is a member of the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) and was tenured for one year in 2021 as ASME's honorary secretary and lead for EDI with membership on the board of directors. 

Yvonne obtained Senior Fellowship of Advance HE (formerly Higher Education Academy) in 2018. In 2020 and 2023, Yvonne was awarded a team Lord Dearing Award from the University of Nottingham for an outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the student experience. Additionally, in 2023, Yvonne was also awarded an individual Lord Dearing Award. In 2021, Yvonne received an impact award from the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) for the publication "Diversifying the medical curriculum as part of the wider decolonising effort: A proposed framework and self-assessment resource toolbox" which received multiple citations locally, nationally and internationally.
