Each year the IHSS and academic Schools within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences host a number of Visiting Fellows (VF) for between one and four weeks. The aim of the scheme is to support international research by hosting leading scholar from outside the UK who are undertaking innovative interdisciplinary work. The Institute is particularly keen to attract Visiting Fellows from low and medium-income countries.
IHSS VF scholars interact with and enhance the intellectual community within the Faculty. Entry to the scheme is by nomination from Schools within the Faculty.
Funding covers the costs of the Fellow’s on-campus accommodation during the period of residency. The travel costs of two Fellows from low/medium income countries will also be covered. In exceptional circumstances, travel costs may be provided for VFs from high-income countries where the visit would not be possible without the funding and where the VF will be engaged in research based in or related to low-income countries.

The scheme's applications are closed.
We plan to launch the second round of applications in January 2025.
