A special screening of Alanis at Kiln Cinema

Alanis (2017, 82 mins), a feature film directed by Anahí Berneri (in Spanish with English subtitles).

Please join us for this special screening of Alanis at Kiln Cinema. The Argentine drama explores two days in the life of its eponymous protagonist who is a sex worker living in Buenos Aires. The film, notable for its bold approach, tells the story of a young woman navigating the challenges of the urban jungle, skillfully evading the pitfalls of sentimentality.

The screening will start with a recorded introduction from the director, Anahí Berneri. It will be followed by a panel discussion with:

  • Dr Erika Teichert, Lecturer in Latin American Studies (University of Bristol)
  • Karoline Pelikan, Documentary Filmmaker, Creative Director of Cine Latino Film Festival
  • Dr Rachel Randall, Reader in Latin American Studies (Queen Mary University of London)

This event is being organised as part of the AHRC-funded project 'Affective and Immaterial Labour in Latin(x) American Culture'. For more information, see the blog site, which includes a blog post about Sex Work and “Puta Politics” in Contemporary Latin American Film.

We’re showing this film in honour of International Sex Workers' Day on June 2nd.
