A public talk with Hassan Jabareen from Adalah, a part of "Focus on Palestine" events
Alongside the genocidal violence Israel has unleashed in Gaza since October 2023, and the bombardment of and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, Palestinians holding Israeli citizenship have been subjected to unprecedented levels of repression, intimidation and persecution in all spheres of life: vast de-legitimisation campaigns, crackdowns on freedom of speech in social media, police brutality, a blanket ban on protests, disciplinary actions against Palestinian students and staff in Israeli universities and workplaces, and even a ban on the most intimate acts of mourning and loss, of their own people and families in Gaza.
Hassan Jabareen, the founding director of Adalah – the legal centre for Arab minority rights in Israel will discuss these realities of being a Palestinian citizen and human rights advocate in the Israeli state in times of genocide, in conversation with Muna Haddad (QMUL).
About Adalah
Adalah (“Justice” in Arabic) is an independent human rights organization and legal centre, founded in November 1996. Adalah’s mission is to promote human rights in Israel in general and the rights of the Palestinian minority, citizens of Israel, in particular (around 1.5 million people, or 20% of the population). This work includes promoting and defending the human rights of all individuals subject to the jurisdiction of the State of Israel (e.g. Palestinian residents of the OPT). Adalah is the first Palestinian Arab-run legal centre in Israel, and the sole Palestinian organization that works before Israeli courts to protect the human rights of Palestinians in Israel and in the OPT.
