A major £30m redevelopment is underway to modernise and enhance the building and facilities of the Engineering Building, used by the School of Engineering and Materials Science and the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.
The first phase of work, now completed, has seen the undergraduate teaching space and surrounding teaching laboratories transformed, using state-of-the-art learning equipment. This initial phase included:
- An inspirational undergraduate learning environment, centred around a 72-seat practical teaching space
- Modernised Human Performance Laboratory
- New dry and wet laboratories to support world-class research
The second phase of work, starting in July 2016 and to be finished around October 2017, will include the development of a creative engineering hub and a brand new robotics engineering lab. It will offer:
- New Robotics Engineering facilities supporting teaching and research in emerging intelligent technology
- Brand new Creative Engineering Hub, supporting innovative design and media and arts technology
- Expansion of state-of-the-art laboratories for our world-class research
- New write-up areas for Electronic Engineering postgraduates
- Refurbished state-of-the-art aeronautical laboratory
