Accessible content
Each course area should include:
Content, resources and activities that comply with relevant accessibility legislation (reasonable adjustments made). See guidance on the
Disability and Dyslexia Service’s Inclusive Practice webpages
on accessible text, slides et al. The
Open University
advice
is also helpful.
Content and resources that are copyright compliant (e.g. scanned or .pdf documents should include the relevant copyright coversheet with proper acknowledgement). See
QMUL Library guidance
on copyright in relation to electronic resources.
Up-to-date content – checked on an annual basis as a minimum. All links to external content and resources should be active.
The lecture slides or notes and any other materials that support face-to-face teaching.
(The expectation is that all such content will be provided on QMplus. If there are reasons not to, they need to be made explicit.) Lecture slides and notes should be provided 24 to 48 hours in advance of the lecture in keeping with widely recognised accessibility standards.
A structured module reading list(s) compiled using Reading Lists Online (
Talis Aspire
) or other means. The advantage of using Talis is that it can be automatically integrated in a QMplus course. As a minimum, the list should separate required from optional/secondary readings but further subdivisions are desirable e.g. by week or topic.
Audio and video content added via our
QMplus media service
and not directly to QMplus. (Other sources of media are also acceptable e.g. you may decide to use YouTube because it provides subtitling.) See
uploading and streaming video in QMplus. Please ensure that multimedia content is consistent with DIsability and Dyslexia Service’s Accessible Materials advice.
Images that have been optimised for online use. (Most graphics or photo software packages have options to ‘save for the web’ or to save in a lower resolution than the original.) Ensure a textual description has been added for visually impaired students.
Full guidance for students on how to use any external e-learning or publisher packages (such as SCORM) that have been uploaded to your module.
Reference to a clearly defined owner of the module content (usually the module convenor) who is responsible for ensuring currency of content and can be contacted by students in the event of problems.
