Recording Booths

Would you like to make an audio or video recording, but don’t have the facilities to do this?
Why not make use of our recording booths at Mile End and Whitechapel?
Take a look at the information on these web pages and contact us at elearning@qmul.ac.uk

Mile-End-Recording-Booth

To help staff create high-quality videos with the minimum fuss, we have recording booths on the Mile End and Whitechapel campuses. The Mile End booth is based in the Student Services office in the iQ East building (formerly Scape), while the Whitechapel booth is located in the Garrod building.

Both recording booths are self-service, but you can contact a member of staff in advance should you need guidance on how to use the booths. The equipment is easy to use and full instructions will be provided.
Please note we do not provide a video-editing service. We suggest you use the editing functionality in QMplus Media (Kaltura) to make minor adjustments to your recordings.

How do they work?

We will guide you through the set up.

The recording booths produce a format that is ready for you to upload to a video hosting service. You can also take copies of the recording for editing.

You can upload your finished video to QMplus Media, our institutional media server. Or you can upload it to YouTube or Vimeo or any other video hosting service.

For further information about QMplus Media, please see our guides or contact us by email: elearning@qmul.ac.uk

What will I need to bring?

A memory stick or external hard drive to take away your recording. Here are some memory sticks we recommend:

Preparing for your recording

Here are some suggestions you might find useful when preparing for your recording:

Do

  • Give yourself plenty of time to do the recording just in case you need to record anything again
  • Make sure you have some water with you
  • If you wear glasses and you want to use the teleprompter make sure you bring your glasses with you!

Don’t

  • Wear anything green if you are using the green screen to superimpose and image behind you!
  • Have your phone turned on
  • Wear any watches or jewellery that might bash the desk or touch the mic during recording

How do I book the booths?

Mile End

Please visit the Mile End booth page from the side menu or click here. The Mile End booth is completely self-service and requires no induction training.

Whitechapel

If you would like to book the Whitechapel recording booth please email elearning@qmul.ac.uk with details of your request.

If you work in SMD, please contact your local Learning Technologist.

If this is the first time you have used the recording facilities please let us know when you book, as you will need a short induction before you can use the booth. This will take approximately 15 minutes.

Please give a minimum of 5 working days’ notice
