Release and deployment management

Release and Deployment Management aims to plan, schedule and control the placing of a change into the live or production environment. Closely allied to the change process, it considers the implications of actually putting a change into use. The change process authorises the release and the release and deployment process considers the implications of actually putting a change into use and how it may affect the users and support teams. Wider questions are also considered: Is the quality of what is released sufficient, and is it what was asked for?

The primary goal of Release Management and Deployment Management is to ensure that the integrity of the live environment is protected and that the correct components are released. The Release and Deployment process is applicable to:

  • Hardware and software releases
  • Both internal and externally hosted systems
  • Technical and non-technical sides of a release
