Our awards
Our success as the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre has been recognised by a number of distinguished awards.
2025
We won the University Pro Bono Award at the 2025 LexisNexis Legal Awards. The award celebrates social justice, highlighting university law clinics' outreach efforts and their impact on supporting vulnerable communities.
2022
- We won the first place in the prestigious 2022 MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship. The award recognised and supported the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre’s civic and public engagement work, in particularly the enhancement of student education and the promotion of access to justice in the community, through our free legal advice service and outreach work.
2020
- We were selected to be the Queen Mary representative in the Collaborative Awards for Teaching Excellence hosted by Advance HE. We are delighted that the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre was selected as one of 15 institutions.
2019
- We were awarded the Principles Prize in the Teaching and Excellence Awards.
- We received the Richard Garriott Public Engagement Award.
- We were selected as the Queen Mary representative for the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE).
- Our activities as the Legal Advice Centre contributed to the wider School of Law winning The Best Contribution by a Law School at the annual LawWorks and Attorney General Student Awards.
2018
- We were honoured to be invited to the Houses of Parliament when we were nominated for the best contribution by a law school in the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Awards.
2017
- At the Queen Mary Festival of Communities Awards Ceremony the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre won two awards. Our SPITE for Schools project won the award for inspiring the local community for the work undertaken in local secondary schools on the issue of revenge porn.
Our first Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre-run undergraduate module (the Practice of Law in a Clinical Environment) also won the community collaboration award for teaching. - Our SPITE Project was nominated in the category of 'Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community' at the Times Higher Education Awards 2017.
2016
- We won the award for 'Best Contribution by a Team of Students' for our work on SPITE at the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Awards. At the same awards ceremony we were also shortlisted in the categories of 'Best Contribution by a Law School' and 'Best New Student Pro Bono Activity.'
- We were also shortlisted at the Halsbury Legal Awards in the Pro Bono category.
- The Lawyer Awards shortlisted us for an award for 'Pro Bono Team of the Year.'
2015
- We were shortlisted for a LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Award for the 'Best Contribution by a Law School.'
- We were proud to be shortlisted for the Pro Bono Award at the Halsbury Legal Awards.
2014
- Our work was highly commended by the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Awards in the category of 'Best Contribution by a Law School,' recognising the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre's work.
2013
- We were shortlisted for The Times Leadership and Management Awards 2013 in the Knowledge Exchange/Transfer initiative category.
2011
- In 2011 the we were a finalist for three prestigious awards: The Lawyer Award for 'Pro Bono Team of the Year;' The Times Higher Award for 'Leadership and Management;' and the LawWorks Award for 'Pro Bono Partnership of the Year' with Reed Smith. We were also highly commended at the Attorney General’s Pro Bono awards for 'Best Team of Students,' and runner-up for 'Best Law School.'
2010
- We won 'Best Team of Students,' and were runner-up for 'Best New Project' at the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Awards.
2009
- The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre was highly commended for 'Best Team of Students,' 'Best New Project,' and 'Best Law School' at the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Awards.
2008
- We were the winners of 'Best New Project' at the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Awards. We were also a finalist and the only university to be shortlisted for the Law Society Excellence Awards.
