The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre is committed to providing free legal advice services for members of the public and Queen Mary staff and students, whilst meeting the educational needs of our students.

We are a student law centre (and therefore our clinic is a teaching and learning environment). However, we do aim to comply with the professional standards applicable to the legal profession. The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre is not a firm of solicitors and is not therefore itself regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), although individual solicitors working within the LAC are individually regulated by the SRA. We are a member of LawWorks and are committed to the Pro Bono Protocol. Our immigration advice is regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA, formerly OISC) - we are a Level 2 (immigration) organisation with IAA registration number N201700017.

Our law students work under the supervision of qualified lawyers, interviewing clients, analysing their legal problems and researching the issues involved in their client’s case.

Clients are then sent a written letter of advice, normally within two weeks of the initial interview.

Black Justice Project

Actions Against the Police, Employment, and Windrush claims for members of black communities.

Company Law

Advice for companies, charities, and social enterprises.

Criminal Justice Project

Advice for anyone who has been drawn into the criminal justice system, whether as a suspect, witness, or victim.

Domestic Abuse Form Filling Clinic

Supporting victims of domestic abuse taking the first steps in obtaining non-molestation and occupation orders.

Family Law

Advice on a full range of family law issues including divorce, separation, disputes relating to children, and financial arrangements.

Fitness to Practice (FTP)

Support and advice for nursing and dental professionals under investigation by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and the General Dental Council GDC.

Law in General

Advice on issues relating to contracts, consumer law, landlord and tenant disputes, leaseholder and freeholder disputes, employment law, and court procedure queries.

Lasting Power of Attorney and Community Care (CHOICE)

Advice on issues relating to Lasting Power of Attorney, Deputyship, Community Care Services, and the Mental Health Act 1983.

Image Based Sexual Abuse (SPITE)

Advice for those who feel they have been a victim of someone sharing or publishing their intimate images without their consent.

Immigration Law

Advice on a range of immigration matters including applications for visas, indefinite leave to remain, and citizenship.

Personal Injury

Preliminary advice for individuals who have sustained an injury in an incident or accident.

Pink Law

Family and Immigration advice for members of the LGBTQA+ community.

Social Welfare Benefits Clinic

Form filling assistance for PIP and UC, help with Mandatory Reconsiderations and representation in the First Tier Social Security Tribunal.

Special Educational Needs and School Exclusions

Advice on primary and secondary age children’s special educational needs.

Wills and Probate

Advice on contentious and non-contentious Wills, Trusts, and Probate matters.
