The Centre for Climate Crime and Climate Justice is proud to collaborate with Matenmidiswa and Konbit Productions to host a community screening of award-winning director Etant Dupain’s ‘The Fight for Haiti.’
Etant Dupain’s documentary THE FIGHT FOR HAITI tells the story of grassroots struggle by young activists leading the fight against government corruption and state-sanctioned violence. It also follows how politicians and oligarchs have attempted to use gangs to destroy the popular movement.
In 2018 a seemingly innocuous tweet swiftly took the country of Haiti by storm: kot kòb PetroCaribe a? Where is the PetroCaribe money? Inquiring about the billions of dollars missing from the Venezuela-financed Petrocaribe initiative—intended to fund social and infrastructure projects in Haiti—this question ignited a movement unlike any the nation had seen in decades. It became the rallying cry for a people infuriated by rapidly deteriorating living conditions, environmental catastrophe, years of broken promises, and the endemic corruption and impunity of the local and international elite.
As the situation in Haiti continues to evolve at a dramatic pace, the team behind the award-winning film Madan Sara: Pouvwa Fanm Ayisyen captures the defiant and unwavering energy of the next generation of Hatians fighting to build a better future.
