The European Copyright Society, whose members include Jonathan Griffiths, Reader in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London, has issued a position paper on the Advocate’s General Opinion in C-572/13 HP Belgium v Reprobel. This reference to the Court of Justice concerns the question of whether or not part of the “fair compensation” payable under copyright levy systems can be paid to publishers, rather than authors, of copyright works.
