Professor Lizzie Barmes and Professor Kate Malleson are launching a new QMUL Undergraduate half module on 'Equality and the Law' in September 2016. The module will enable students to locate legal doctrine and practice within wider disciplinary contexts, public policy and debate. The law in the UK on equality and anti-discrimination will be scrutinized and evaluated through case studies of topical issues like the legal profession, the judiciary, the legislature, education and gender segregation in society. The module will be assessed through research proposals, presentations about students’ chosen topics and research essays of 4,000 words that develop their proposals. The dovetailing of the module with the work of the Centre for Research on Law, Equality and Diversity (LEAD) will further give students’ opportunities to engage with the broad range of methodologies and substantive research in the area of equality.
