Published:

Professor Sionaidh Douglas-Scott, Anniversary Chair in Law, Co-Director at the Centre for Law and Society in a Global Context at QMUL, discusses the nature of ‘consent’ with regard to Scotland and Brexit. “A UK minister can say ‘we need some common frameworks here. We’ll freeze these powers that you have, take control of them [and] issue legislation. And if you don’t consent, we can still do that’”, she said. Professor Douglas-Scott added: “The UK Government have given a commitment that they would abide by the various conventions and consent, and that seems to have satisfied the Welsh Government but hasn’t satisfied the Scottish Government.” Listen to the full interview (Professor Douglas-Scott speaks from 42 minutes 30 seconds).
