There have been many recent developments in Banking Law, Financial Regulation and Financial Technology, such as regulatory changes; an increased focus on companies’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance; competition from FinTechs; and increased cyber security and data protection risks.

The project’s main objective is the organisation of an international, one-day conference to provide a platform for academics and practitioners to analyse these trends and offer solutions. A unique aspect of the conference will be a Lego Serious Play creativity workshop to help attendees engage with the panel discussions and encourage creative problem solving.

The conference is expected to play an important role in generating high quality peer reviewed publications and high impact research outputs to advance the scholarship in banking law.

Dr Daniele D’Alvia, Lecturer in Banking and Finance Law, and Dr Katrien Morbee, Senior Lecturer in Banking and Finance Law, both from Queen Mary University of London, will work with Dr Alison Lui, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), on organising the conference.

The Banking to the Future: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges conference is expected to take place on 20 June 2025 in the City of London at Ironmongers’ Hall.
