Recent application for International Criminal Court arrest warrants

The potential International Criminal Court arrest warrant against the Israeli PM and some members of Hamas is unusual in that it’s already under discussion before it has been officially confirmed.

"That's unconventional," says Dr Dimitri Van Den Meerssche, a Lecturer in Law at Queen Mary University of London.

"Normally, a request for an arrest warrant is first dealt with internally. Only when the Pre-Trial Chamber accepts the request will the official communication follow. But (Karim) Khan's office has been under enormous political pressure for months. That may explain the exceptional communication."
