Queen Mary Students visit the International Maritime Organisation Legal Committee Meeting
On the 25th of March, a group of LLM students from Queen Mary University of London were invited to attend the Meeting of the Legal Committee of International Maritime Organization at their London HQ. States discussed pressing issues to the law of the sea, such as human rights of abandoned sea farers.

LLM student Leneka T. Scott said: "As a QMUL student, I had the opportunity to observe a Legal Committee meeting at the IMO. It was a wonderful experience to see the general procedure in action. Each country shared their views on the various sections of the work programme. I was pleased that, for the most part, there was general consensus. Even when countries slightly disagreed with the direction, they offered alternative proposals that challenged the status quo—sometimes even suggesting more efficient approaches that required fewer resources. I also had the chance to interact with several delegates and was especially grateful to meet the representative from my own country, Jamaica—Mr. Bertrand Smith, Director General of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica. He was very happy to meet me and shared details on the current challenges Jamaica is facing, as well as the opportunities that lie ahead."
This visit has been organised with the great help of the Director for LLM at Queen Mary, Dr Shalini Perera and Dr Andrew Pitt.
