I wondered about studying a specific LLM in banking & finance, and QMUL was one of the top five in this area of expertise, and it has precisely the program I was looking for.
I worked in banking & finance since I was 19. Thus, I was pretty sure about what I wanted to learn and from who. When I started my research about LLM programs and universities, QMUL was fixed correctly with my profile and aspirations as a post-graduate. Besides, the professors' staff helped me a lot with my decisions since QMUL has a high-level professor's team. For example, Professor Rosa Lastra is the Sir John Lubbock Chair in Banking Law and Chair of the Institute of Banking and Finance Law, the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS). In my opinion, she is one of the most iconic professors I wanted to learn from and had the opportunity to attend her classes.
Luckily, I had classes at CCLS, and COVID-19 did not interfere with that. The Professors are easy going; they are available all the time for whatever you may need. I appreciate that most of them always encourage us to email them with any questions and visit them. They were available for us all the time. Keep in mind that at QMUL, professors don’t just deliver classes but also help students with their learning and other matters.
The key to my program was the extracurricular activities, such as the academic and networking events with other professionals in the banking & finance area from the UK, the USA, and Europe.
For sure, I will advise them on three basic things:
Read the handbook with all the subjects carefully, if they have any doubts, do not hesitate to contact and ask for advice from other students who already have passed through that.
Do not miss any extracurricular event. Those events can be super useful for networking.
Do not hesitate to participate in the programs that QMUL offers, such as qLegal and consider being a specialism representative.
Definitely, despite the fact I worked in banking & finance before, I can now affirm that the LLM pushed me up in my career and now I can develop what I learned in my country.
The people I have met. I made friends all my life and all over the world. This has been essential and invaluable to me.
