Year of graduation: 2022
Name of programme: Immigration Law LLM
Country: India

What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

I was always interested in issues of borders and the legal status of persons while studying for my bachelors. Coming from a country that provides skilled and semi-skilled laborers to the world, I grew up coming across various stories of migrants being discriminated against or prosecuted due to a lack of knowledge about the country or being misled. These instances made me realise there is a need for development and personnel in this field.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

I was very excited to study this field of law. I am lucky enough to have professors who have the same enthusiasm and they have increased my excitement and motivation towards the subjects. Subjects and the curriculum here are very engaging and enlightening. With real-world scenarios and theories, the professors ensured a perfect mix of theoretical and analytical approaches to the subject.

What was key about your programme/ were there any highlights?

The best thing about studying at Queen Mary are my course mates and other students. Studying here just opened me to a world filled with enthusiastic and hard-working people striving to make the world a better place in their ways. This made me realise that change and development are not only limited to certain people and specific subjects.

Has gaining a deeper understanding of your specialisation helped your career?

Through pursuing this course, I am confident that my career will be shaped according to the way I had planned. When I joined this course, I had no idea there would be so many opportunities, but there are numerous opportunities leading to working in areas such as public advocacy to corporate institutions.
