What influenced your decision to choose a LLM at Queen Mary?

When I applied to QMUL I had seen that Interactive Entertainment Law was offered and it immediately piqued my interest. I had been playing and engaging with video games since a young age, and the opportunity to take that passion into my studies was something I could not pass up. I had decided that it would be a good opportunity to take a module that would break up some of the heavier black letter law modules in my programme. What I had not expected is quite how engaging and interesting the subject would be.

How did you find the teaching and learning?

I was immediately taken with the topic and the enthusiastic and passionate staff. One of the best things about Interactive Entertainment is that academically it is still in its infancy, which meant that the topics we were asked to grapple with were not only important, but our work was some of the first in the area. With the support of the staff, we were given every opportunity to explore new ideas and encouraged to think freely when we constructed our coursework topics.

What has made you proud during your programme?

I am proud to have been able to be a part of such a rich area of law whilst it is still being developed, and I am even more proud to have had the encouragement and opportunity to publish and write several papers on the area.

What piece of insight or advice would you offer for future students?

I truly cannot give the Interactive Entertainment Law faculty enough praise. What I began as a one-off module changed my entire outlook on the legal profession and opened a door to a career in academia that I had never considered. I would highly recommend anyone with an interest in intellectual property or video games to take Interactive Entertainment Law at QMUL, it is a decision that I don’t believe anyone will regret.
