Welcome to the Queen Mary Law Journal, a beacon of legal scholarship and a testament to the resilience and dedication of our academic community.
Our journey began in 1998 with a simple yet powerful mission: to offer an avenue for students and practitioners of the law to publish work that falls outside the scope of the typical legal curriculum. Our journal is a collection of essays and academic articles published annually by the Queen Mary Law Society at Queen Mary University of London. It is an entirely student-run publication, with both its leadership and editorial board drawn from the student body.
In 2010, we re-introduced the journal with renewed vigour and commitment, only to face an unforeseen hiatus in 2020, primarily due to the global pandemic, which affected and disrupted the administrative procedure of this student-led journal. While challenging, it gave us the opportunity to reflect, regroup, and re-emerge stronger, and our resolve to contribute to legal discourse remained unshaken.
In 2021, we picked up where we left off, this time with the journal being run by the research-focused doctoral students. This transition marked a new chapter in our history, bringing a higher level of academic rigour and scholarly insight to our publication.
Since then, our journal has been produced annually, each issue focusing on a specific theme. Our editorial board carefully selects these themes based on their relevancy in contemporary legal discourse. This thematic approach allows us to delve deep into specific areas of law, fostering a rich and nuanced understanding of legal issues. Our peer reviewers, comprised of doctoral researchers and academics, ensure the quality and integrity of our publication. Their expertise and dedication are instrumental in maintaining the QMLJ’s high standards.
Our journal is indexed in HeinOnline and Westlaw, two of the most respected legal research databases. This recognition is a testament to the quality of our work and our contribution to the field of law.
The QMLJ is more than just a publication. It is a platform for intellectual exchange, a catalyst for innovative legal thought, and a reflection of our unwavering commitment to legal scholarship. We invite you to join us in this exciting journey as we continue to explore, challenge, and shape the world of law.
