To register with the Library you will first need to collect your staff ID card, this is also your Library card. The barcode on the front of the card will allow you to gain access to the Library, use self-service machines and photocopiers. To register, bring your staff ID card to the Welcome Desk at either Whitechapel or Mile End Library, alternatively you can Register online. QMUL Libraries are conducting tours of Mile End Library and Whitechapel Library. These are designed for new staff, but participating in a tour will be useful for anyone interested in the range of services the library has to offer.

Self service machines are available in Mile End, West Smithfield, and Whitechapel Libraries, allowing you to borrow, renew and view your Library account. Library Services manage subscription and access to a wealth of information through electronic journals and databases. For an introduction to finding and using these resources please visit the E-Resources help pages. Printing Photocopying and Scanning is provided in all Libraries. For more information on photocopying charges, please visit the IT facilities, photocopying and printing pages on the Library website.
Scanning is free of charge and is available on all photocopiers, you will need to bring a USB flash drive on which to save scanned items.
QMUL Libraries maintain collections in a wide range of disciplines to support teaching, learning and research. However, it is not possible to hold everything. There are a number of options available to help access resources where QMUL does not hold a particular item in its own collections.
QMUL has reciprocal access arrangements with other University of London Colleges, open to all staff and students. It may also be possible to access the library of an institution not part of the University of London through the SCONUL Access scheme. The Inter-library loan and document supply service offers the opportunity to locate, borrow or photocopy resources that are not held locally. For more information, go to Inter-library loans and document supply.
The Teaching Collection is a collection of core texts and high demand items, located on the ground floor of Mile End Library. Reading list and high demand items at Whitechapel Medical and Dental Libraries are located with the rest of the collections on the open shelves.
Reading Lists Online gives academics the ability to create, manage, and maintain lists using simple drag and drop functions, and to make these lists available to students;
It provides students with easy access to relevant lists, and to materials on those lists, through links to the Library catalogue, electronic books and journals, and other resources;
It allows Library staff to review lists, acquire materials to resource these lists, and ensure that materials are accurately described and discoverable.
A newly developed module, which carries out copyright compliance checks, allows you to add digitised content to your lists in the edit mode. You can also upload digitised content and carry out compliance checks independently of reading lists at https://content.talisaspire.com/qmul.
