One-to-one Skills Support

One-to-one Skills Support

Get personal, one-to-one advice from a Librarian or Academic Skills Adviser

Our one-to-one support offers students practical guidance in developing insights and practices that will contribute to their success at Queen Mary.

We offer individual support for students in a variety of formats — in person and online (depending on the availability of our staff)

If you are a Medicine and Dentistry student looking for help on finding information (including literature searching for systematic reviews), or managing your references, please come along to our drop-in sessions.

For all other one-to-one support, please make your appointment in our booking system. Please make sure to choose a relevant member of staff depending on your faculty and your needs.

Don't forget to check out our workshops and online resources to see if there's already something available to meet your needs.

We offer one-to-one support on:

  • Where and how to find information
  • Referencing and Reference Management Software (Endnote, Mendeley)
  • Systematic review searches (SMD and HSS)
  • Academic reading and writing
  • Presentation skills
  • Exam and revision skills
  • Academic integrity
  • Maths and Statistics
  • ... and more

You can also get advice from a professional writer by making an appointment with one of our Royal Literary Fund Fellows

Our one-to-one support is centred around you and your questions.

Information about booking

  • Appointments are automatically generated two-weeks in advance.
  • As availability is limited, students can only book one tutorial at a time.
  • Please give as much information as possible about what you’d like to talk about on your booking form as this information helps us to prepare.

Please contact us if you have any questions or if you have something to share with us before the one-to-one.

If it hadn't been for the help and support I received in the tutorials, I do not believe I would have been able to achieve a first
