Historical Background: Architect's drawing showing additions to the original Kidderpore Hall, later known as Old House, c.1890
By 1889 space at the houses in Maresfield Gardens was limited and students were asked to share rooms. A more suitable location was sort and in 1890 Kidderpore Hall was purchased. Robert Falconer MacDonald, son of the writer George MacDonald, was appointed as the architect to build an additional wing to Kidderpore Hall. This additional wing, later called Maynard Wing, created accommodation for 40 residents, the Dining Hall, and the Attic Laboratory.
On Lady Day (25 March) 1891, the College moved to its permanent location on Kidderpore Avenue, Hampstead, and formally adopted the name Westfield College.
