Profile

Dason Evans is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Medical Education, Head of Clinical Skills at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University London, and a part time Sexual Health Doctor. He has been awarded a Masters in Health Professions Education from Maastricht (cum Laude) and has worked in medical education for the last 20 years. He is a fellow of the HEA. His particular passions lay in three areas of medical education: the teaching, learning and assessment of clinical skills; supporting students in academic difficulty; and helping the development of undergraduate and postgraduate medical teachers.

He is currently on secondment at the medical school’s Malta campus, where he is leading on the development of the skills curriculum and skills centre, and on developing a programme of faculty development. He is also staff chair of the BartsMalta senior student staff liaison committee, and leads on various parts of medical school teaching for years 3, 4 and 5, including the recent rapid transition to online teaching and learning. He is a PBL tutor, MedPro (personal) tutor and Senior Tutor for Y4 students.

Maintaining links in London, Dason retains academic oversight of the clinical skills curriculum across both campuses, co-leads a module in the MA in education for clinical contexts and leads on a project to embed clinical skills into a medical degree run jointly between Queen Mary and Nanchang University in China.

In the past Dason has co-authored a module for the FAIMER “Masters in Health Professions Education: accreditation and assessment”, co-authored two leading books on student learning and a chapter in the popular “ABC of Teaching and Learning in Medicine”, and has published and presented widely in medical education.
