With our event, we aim to showcase the diversity of mathematical sciences, both in terms of our community and what we study. Through interactive sessions, group work, taster lectures and talks from current students, you’ll get a feel for what it’s like to be mathematician at Queen Mary.
We’re a welcoming, supportive and intellectually curious community, and we can’t wait to share that with you.
To ensure we are creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all, and one that reflects the University experience, we ask that teachers do not book large school groups. We have a limited capacity and we want students to mix with new people, experience new ways of working, and get a feel for what it would be like to study with us.

10:00 – 10:30, Arrival Refreshments and networking with staff and student ambassadors in the Maths Building foyer.
10:30 – 11:00, Welcome to our community Introduction to Queen Mary and the School of Mathematical Sciences. This talk will include a brief overview of where a maths degree could take you.
11:00 – 11:30, Diversity in Maths In this interactive session led by our PhD students, you’ll get to know inspirational mathematicians from all walks of life. Working in smaller groups, it’s a great way to develop team-working skills in a new setting.
11:30 – 12:00, Problem Solving Time to put those maths skills to the test! In groups, you’ll have a go at solving fun mathematical problems set by lecturers, professors and researchers from Queen Mary’s School of Mathematical Sciences.
12:00 – 12:15, Break
12:15 – 12:45, Taster Lecture Get a feel for university level lectures in our state-of-the-art lecture theatre.
12:45 – 13:25, Transitioning to University A current Maths student from Queen Mary will share their experience on transitioning from A-Levels to University life. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions to staff and students from the University.
13:30 – 14:00, Lunch A sandwich lunch will be provided for all attendees in our Undergraduate Social Hub.
14:00 - 14:30, Campus Tour (optional) If you’d like to see the rest of campus, our Student Ambassadors will be on hand to show you some of their favourite spots.
