When: Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PMWhere: Maths Lecture Theatre, Mile End
Speaker: Lucy Harris, Mana Jalali and Aditi Shenvi
We welcome Lucy Harris, Mana Jalali and Aditi Shenvi who are data scientists at Habitat Energy, a leading global optimiser of grid-connected battery storage assets. They are all also key members of the Women in Habitat network.
They will be giving a presentation and holding an informal discussion about what it means to be a data scientist in the energy industry, and why it's an interesting sector to work in. Whilst they are keen to encourage more women to get involved in this industry, the talk will be of general interest and they encourage anyone interested in the energy transition movement, or careers in data science, to attend.
Lucy HarrisI am a meteorological data scientist at Habitat Energy. I joined the company 2 years ago, and I work on forecasting the power available from wind farms at the day-ahead stage. I joined Habitat from academia, having previously done a postdoc on machine learning for post-processing weather forecasts. I love weather, chaos and cycling.
Mana JalaliI am a data scientist at Habitat Energy and have been working in the energy sector for almost three years now. Before that I received my PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia Tech, where I focused on using machine learning for optimising and planning smart grids. My work revolves around probabilistic forecasting, optimizing the participation of renewable assets in the grid, and designing pricing and hedging strategies.
Aditi ShenviI have been a data scientist at Habitat Energy for nearly 2 years. My background is in mathematical and statistical modelling, and I hold a PhD in Statistics from the University of Warwick. At Habitat, I work across our operational GB data science team in creating products for our live trading operations, and also with our commercial team in developing longer term risk management products.
