My name is Aaron Grewal, and I am a final-year student at Queen Mary, studying MSci Financial Mathematics. I have always been interested in exploring ways to combine my passion for maths in a more applied manner, and this degree seemed to offer the best of both worlds. Fair to say, after four years at the university, I don’t regret my decision!

Queen Mary is abundant with fantastic staff, supportive academics, and plenty of resources to help you tackle any challenge during your degree. For me, one particular aspect that stood out was how accessible the professors were in sharing their knowledge to support my projects, even if I hadn’t been taught by them beforehand.

Queen Mary has not only allowed me to improve my critical thinking but also encouraged me to be more curious and exploratory about the challenges we face on a daily basis.

Whether it's the diverse student community from across the UK and abroad, or the wide range of societies ranging from lacrosse to comedy, everyone’s interests can find a home at the University.

The University has allowed me to gain technical skills, as well as broad knowledge in statistics, computer science, and business, helping me apply this to a wide range of problems and challenges.

Try to be as curious as possible! You never know what you could gain or the fun that can happen along the way. Some of my best moments at university have come from being curious and having the confidence to try something new.

I have genuinely loved my time at Queen Mary. As a first-generation university student from a small town in the Midlands, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from university, but it has far surpassed my expectations. The ability to make friends from all around the world, spend four years deep diving into mathematics and the recent innovations happening in my subject, and explore life in London has been an amazing opportunity that I would recommend to anyone considering it.
