The prizes were presented by Gordon Sharp, Master Elect of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries. Gordon has had a successful career as an actuary, most recently with KPMG LLP and has supported numerous actuaries and 95 actuarial students in their professional development.

Actuarial Science students were assessed on their suitability for the prizes based on their academic results as well as a written statement. Irene Paterson, a Trustee of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries commented that Beverly and Hoi Yan 'both submitted well structured and thoughtful pieces. They both came over as being enthusiastic to apply their mathematical skills in traditional areas such as insurance and pensions as well as in wider fields. They also recognised the need for professional development and both seemed very committed and thoughtful.'

Prize winner Beverly said 'I am honoured to have received an award from the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, and it is especially motivating to know that my essay conveyed my ambition to become an actuary, particularly with it being read by people in the industry. This recognition not only motivates me to further enhance my skills but has also opened doors to expand my professional network. Engaging with experts in the field was extremely rewarding, as their insights and advice provided me with invaluable guidance. This experience has fuelled my determination to excel in my studies and professional development, as I work towards making a meaningful contribution to the actuarial community.'

Hoi Yan added 'Winning an award from the Worshipful Company of Actuaries (WCA) is an amazing recognition of my hard work and a key milestone in my actuarial studies. I am deeply grateful for the support WCA has extended to me and other aspiring actuaries.

Attending the Annual Worshipful Company of Actuaries Lecture not only provided me with insights into the history and innovations in actuarial science but also allowed me to connect with industry experts. Through WCA, I have developed a deeper understanding of actuarial science and expanded my professional network.'
