Dr Michalis AgathosLecturer in MathematicsEmail: m.agathos@qmul.ac.ukRoom Number: MB-B25ProfileResearchProfileI am a Lecturer at the Centre for Geometry, Analysis & Gravitation and a member of the Gravitational Waves Initiative (GWI).My research focuses on gravitational wave physics, on the interface between theory, source modelling and data analysis. By analysing signals from cosmic events like mergers of black holes or neutron stars, my work tests the limits of Einstein's theory of general relativity and seeks to identify potential deviations from its predictions. I also study gravitational waves from neutron star binaries to infer the composition and properties of matter in the extreme conditions found in neutron star interiors. Before joining Queen Mary, I was a senior Kavli fellow at KICC / DAMTP at the University of Cambridge, where I continue to hold a visiting fellowship. My educational background is in computational and theoretical physics, with a focus on gravity. I completed my PhD in gravitational wave physics at Nikhef and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (2016), after which I spent a few years as a Rubicon fellow at DAMTP, Cambridge and senior postdoc at TPI Jena. I have been a member of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration since 2011, and more recently a member of the Einstein Telescope Collaboration and the LISA Consortium.ResearchResearch Interests:See Michalis Agathos’ research profile pages including details of research interests, publications, and live grants.
