Queen Mary University of London has welcomed a Higher Education delegation from Pakistan on Thursday, 23 May. The visit follows the launch of the Pak-UK Transnational Education (TNE) Policy at the end of April and a first successful visit by a delegation of Pakistani Vice Chancellors to Queen Mary in February last year.
This time, more than 20 newly appointed Vice Chancellors and 2 rectors of Pakistani universities and higher education institutions travelled to meet with Queen Mary’s President and Principal, Professor Colin Bailey (CBE), and senior staff members to continue the conversation, forging new partnerships and fostering existing ones. The visit, an initiative under the PAK-UK Education Gateway, was organised in collaboration with the British Council and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
The Gateway is a joint bilateral programme whose purpose is to enhance partnership between the higher education sectors and institutions of Pakistan and the UK. The key areas of collaboration under this umbrella framework include innovative and collaborative research, higher education leadership, quality assurance and standard setting, distance learning, international mobility, and transnational education.
Central to the agenda for the day was a discussion and best practice exchange on the theme of Governance & Strategy, led by Jonathan Morgan, Queen Mary’s Chief Governance Officer, and Karen Kroger, Chief Financial Officer, Queen Mary, and a Q&A on collaboration opportunities, facilitated by Dr Maggie Leggett, Director of External Relations.
Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London, said:
