This month, Queen Mary welcomed a senior delegation from the University of Ha’il to the Institute of Dentistry for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, followed by a delegation from the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, who were hosted by the School of Business and Management.
Professor Christopher Tredwin, Dean and Director of the Institute of Dentistry welcomed a delegation from Saudi Arabia’s University of Ha’il comprising of the President, the Vice President and senior faculty from the College of Dentistry. This was an opportunity to discuss areas of future collaboration and the meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Queen Mary’s Institute of Dentistry and the University of Ha’il.
Professor Christopher Tredwin said:
“Contributing to Queen Mary’s Strategy 2030 and aligning with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, we are excited to be formalising our partnership with University of Ha’il through a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement comes on the back of existing fruitful engagement between our two institutions, often driven by staff at Institute of Dentistry and Queen Mary alumni who are now faculty members at the University of Ha’il. We are particularly enthusiastic about the potential for greater educational, training and research exchanges between our students and staff, as well as the alignment of our missions around improving lives through effective and inclusive community engagement and social partnerships.”
Also in attendance was Professor Richard Grose, Dean for International at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, who provided an overview of Queen Mary and our current educational and research engagements with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome our partners from the University of Ha’il to Queen Mary. We are eager to build on the strong foundations that have been established in the field of dentistry, by exploring new routes of collaboration, including expanding our current partnership into other disciplines, both in the context of education and research.”
The delegation from the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology (BUCT), led by Dr Yan Qu, Vice Chair of the BUCT Council, was welcomed by Dr Patrick McGurk, Professor Brigitte Granville and Dr Georgios Kavetsos from the School of Business and Management, as well as Dr Matthieu Burnay, Dean for International at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who presented a short overview of Queen Mary.
With this relationship being at its preliminary stages, discussions centred around the potential for future educational partnerships and student exchanges, whereby BUCT students would have the opportunity to attend Queen Mary’s Summer School or to study on one of Queen Mary’s innovative and professionally-relevant MSc programmes being offered by the School of Business and Management.
