MONDAY 20 NOVEMBER at 3pm: We regret to inform you that this evening's event has had to be cancelled at very short notice. We hope that this will not cause you any major inconvenience.

In the latest in our ‘In Conversation’ series – which has previously featured high-profile politicians such as Ken Clarke, Diane Abbott, and David Lammy – we will be joined by the Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, Jess Phillips MP.

In conversation with Dr Lyndsey Jenkins, Jess will be reflecting on her early life in Birmingham, her childhood ambition to be Prime Minister, working for Women’s Aid and managing refuges for victims of domestic abuse, and spending three years as a local councillor in Birmingham. Jess will also be talking about spending almost a decade as the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley, writing three best-selling books including The Life of an MP (published in 2021), the state of the Labour Party today, and her work over the last three years as Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence.

This event will be held in the Peston Lecture Theatre in the Graduate Centre at Queen Mary University of London, which is number 18 on this map of the Mile End campus. It is open to all. Doors will open at 6.30pm for a pre-event drinks reception and we aim to start at 7.30pm sharp.
