This is an internal in-person event. Only people affiliated with Queen Mary University of London will be able to attend. There is no hybrid option and this session will not be recorded.
As part of a new Queen Mary Policy Hub training programme, join a 3-hour hands-on workshop led by design experts focussing on how to turn data into a clear and compelling visual story. Adam Frost and Tobias Sturt from AddTwo Digital will walk through the data visualisation process, focussing on how to find and structure your story, and how to give it the most engaging visual form. They will share their favourite tips and tricks rooted in their background as Guardian designers, and over 20 years' experience of running design agencies.
The seminars combine tried-and-tested guidance with hands-on exercises are designed for people who have to analyse and present data as part of their work, particularly those in academia and universities.
Attendees will leave the workshop with:
- a clear understanding of the process of data visualisation and information design – Find, Design, Make and Refine
- a better view of what is good and bad practice in the presentation of complex data
- an appreciation of the central tenets of audience-led design and how its principles can be applied to the creation of tables and charts
- actionable insights into how the principles of data design could be applied to make immediate improvements to your own work.
About the trainers:
Add Two is a digital agency specialising in storytelling and data visualisation. They are a diverse group of editors, designers and developers headed up by Adam Frost and Tobias Sturt. Between Adam and Tobias, they have over 20 years’ experience working as designers for the Guardian and running design agencies. Adam Frost and Tobias Sturt offer a number of seminars on key aspects of modern graphic design and information architecture.
