Mahler’s 10th Symphony: performed by the Shadwell Ensemble and conducted by Finnegan Downie Dear (London premiere of new performing version by Michelle Castelletti)
Talk by Professor Stefan Priebe
Tonight’s event draws music and mind together, as through the heady atmosphere of early Twentieth Century Vienna.
Gustav Mahler wrote his 10th symphony in Vienna in 1910, which was within a context of unusual creativity in a range of intellectual and artistic areas. Professor Stefan Priebe’s introductory presentation will describe the historical background of this period in Vienna and its cultural achievements.
Michelle Castelletti’s new performing version of Mahler’s final musical testament, which was left unfinished, brings out an intimacy familiar to the Viennese musical cognoscenti.
Tickets: £7.50 [FULL], £3.50 [STUDENTS]
