Journey to Higher Education

Queen Mary is pleased to provide a series of webinars and student panels to support you with your journey to higher education  

Registrations for our new webinars for 2024/25 are now live!

Our online series of webinars and student panel events aims to support you through the different stages of the application process.

Each session will provide you with information and practical tips to guide you through your journey to higher education. You will get the chance to hear from current Queen Mary students who have been through it all before.

Parents and Carers you will notice specific sessions to help you support your young person throughout their journey to higher education but please feel free to also register for sessions aimed at students.

Below is a list of upcoming webinars and student panels. Feel free to book onto multiple sessions via the registration link listed in the description.

Teachers and advisers are very welcome to attend but are unable to book on behalf of a student or group of students.

Alternatives to Medicine and Dentistry

Wednesday 18 September 2024, 4.30 - 5.30pm (BST)

The aim of this session is to continue to develop your understanding for the alternative health and science related courses that are available to you that you might want to consider in case you change your mind about applying for medicine or dentistry or if things don’t go to plan along your UCAS journey.

Studying Medicine in Malta

Wednesday 25 September 2024, 4.30 - 5.30pm (GMT)

Did you know that Queen Mary offers the MBBS degree at the Malta Campus? Discover how you can get the best of both worlds – a London Medical School in the Mediterranean! This session will provide an overview of what studying Medicine is like in Malta.

This session will cover:

  • Get to know the Malta Campus
  • The Maltese Islands and lifestyle
  • Entry requirements
  • Q&A session with some of our current students

Medicine and Dentistry UCAS Strategy and Q&A

Thursday 3 October 2024, 5.00 - 6.00pm (BST)

We will go through everything that you need to consider for medicine or dentistry UCAS strategy and there is an opportunity to ask us any last minute questions you may have prior to the 15 Oct deadline.

This session is aimed at year 13 students who are about to submit their application for medicine or dentistry.

Parents and Carers - Supporting your child's university application

Wednesday 16 October 2024, 6.00 - 7.00pm (BST)

This session aimed at parents and carers, will help you find out all you need to know about applying to university and how you can support your young person with the application process. We will cover:

  • Explaining what is UCAS
  • How to apply and make your application
  • Post-18 options and pathways
  • Key dates and deadlines
  • How to support your young person to make decisions about their next steps and beyond

You will have the chance to also ask our panel questions around the application process and applying to university.

Understanding Support Services: Advice for Care Experienced Students

Wednesday 30 October 2024, 4.30 - 5.30pm (GMT)

This session is specifically for care-experienced students and supporters. We will be discussing the different types of support available to you at university as a care experienced student. 

 We will cover:

  • How you can let universities know that you are care-experienced

  • Applying for student finance

  • The types of support available to you at university

  • Useful resources to help you prepare for university

We will be joined by a member of the welfare advice team to share their advice and answer your questions.

Writing Your Personal Statement

Wednesday 6 November 2024, 4.30 - 5.30pm (GMT)

Join us in this session to help refine your personal statement. This session will focus on how you can perfect your personal statement ready to submit for the UCAS deadline. We will be joined by current Queen Mary students who will share their tips and advice on how to write a fantastic personal statement!

Degree Apprenticeship Spotlight: Overview and Benefits

Join us as we explore Degree Apprenticeships. We will cover the following:

  • The differences between a Degree Apprenticeship and a traditional university degree

Preparing for university interviews: Medicine and Dentistry spotlight

This session will provide an overview of what students can expect when they participate in university medicine interviews and how best to prepare for them.

This session will cover:

• What interviewers are looking for
• Answering questions
• Question topics, overview and Q&A on answering questions
• Things you need to think about
• Areas of preparation
• Post-interview

This session is aimed at students who have applied to medicine and dentistry for September 2025 entry

Studying in London 

Wednesday 18 December 2024, 4.30 - 5.30pm (GMT)

London remains the best city in the world to be a university student, according to the QS World Student Cities 2022 surveys and analysis. Join Queen Mary students as they discuss what life as a student in London is really like. They will discuss:

  • Why they chose to study in London 
  • London and QMUL social life 
  • London Costs and if its really as bad as we are told 
  • What moving to a big city is really like
  • Why some chose to commute to university
