A Practical One Day Workshop on Planning and Reporting Pilot and Feasibility Studies 2018

Overview

This annual workshop was held in September 2018 at Keele Univeristy. It was based on the work of the Pilot and Feasibility Studies (PAFS) collaboration*. The PAFS collaboration is an international research group working on the reporting and conduct of pilot and feasibility studies. In 2016 the group published a framework for defining pilot and feasibility studies and the CONSORT extension for randomised pilot trials. Course Content

The workshop aims were to: 

• Introduce participants to an overarching conceptual framework of defining pilot and feasibility studies conducted in preparation for a randomised controlled trial of effectiveness 
• Present the CONSORT reporting guidelines for pilot randomised trials, particularly focusing on where this differs from the main CONSORT Statement 
• Give participants hands-on experience of using CONSORT extension to both plan and assess the reporting of a trial 
• Discuss participants' own examples of pilot and feasibility trials to exemplify good practice in reporting, design, and conduct 

Who this course is for

This course is aimed at anyone interested in planning or reporting a pilot or feasibility study. This could include health professionals, clinicians, epidemiologists, statisticians, PhD Students, NIHR Fellows etc.
