Mr Kash Akhtar is the Programme Director and a Senior Clinical Academic Lecturer for the Orthopaedic Trauma Science programme. He is a Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery and Surgical Education at the Blizard Institute, and a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust. He is fellowship trained in all aspects of complex knee surgery, with a specialist interest in traumatic knee dislocations and multiligament injuries. He gained further experience as a Winston Churchill Fellow over four months in the USA in 2014 where he spent time at the Mayo Clinic, Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and Rush University Medical Centre in Chicago.

Mr Peter Bates is an Honorary Senior Lecturer for the Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences programme at the Blizard Institute. He is an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at The Royal London Hospital, Lead for Orthopaedic Trauma and Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics at Barts Health NHS Trust. His specialist interest is pelvic fractures and the management of polytrauma. He trained around North East London but did trauma fellowships in Christchurch (NZ), Nottingham (UK) and Dallas (Tx, USA). He was awarded the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association 'Trainer of the Year’ in 2014.
